our fiber

this is vegetable cashmere

Vegetable Cashmere® is a proprietary soy-based fiber developed by KD Knit, born from a simple but radical idea: that luxury doesn’t have to come at the expense of the planet. Soft, breathable and high-performing, it delivers the sensory experience of animal cashmere – without the environmental cost or ethical compromise.

The fiber contains soy protein, a byproduct recovered during the production of soybean oil for food and skincare. This high-value soy protein is isolated and mixed through a wet-spinning process into a spinnable fiber. The result is a resilient and elegant plant-based alternative that anchors a new class of luxury yarn.

a byproduct re-imagined

To enhance performance and design flexibility, Vegetable Cashmere® is spun with U.S. grown cotton and TENCEL™, two natural fibers known for their softness and breathability. The blend maintains soy as the dominant fiber component, while offering versatility for both apparel and home textiles.

Vegetable Cashmere® is a new and novel luxury fiber comparable to animal cashmere. It is significantly less expensive than the cost of animal cashmere with a fraction of the environmental impact.

This pricing advantage empowers luxury brands to scale sustainable innovation – expanding impact without sacrificing exclusivity.

traceable, transparent and consistent

Production of the soy fiber takes place in China in partnership with Yuwang Ecological Food Industry Co., Ltd., a family-owned leader in soy protein technology. Yuwang’s vertically integrated supply chain – spanning non-GMO soybean cultivation through soy protein isolation – ensures full traceability, transparency and consistent quality. Their products meet USDA Organic and OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certifications, underscoring a commitment to sustainability, safety and performance.
